An adventure off Fort Totten

So this was the weekend to do some holiday shopping. Meg and I both have gift exchanges at work, and still have some other gifts to purchase. So as we lazed around Saturday morning waiting until it was time for the library was open, Meg looked through the Silver Spring times or some local newspaper or another. She found some things she wanted to go check out. One of them was a warehouse/sample sale for Tibet Collection (tibetcollection.com).

According to the paper it was "a short walk from the Fort Totten metro stop. [For those who have visited, FT is the first stop if you get on at Takoma and head toward downtown DC.] So we decided we'd test it out. We (I) made sure that we took the little map that was in the paper with us. After exiting the station there was a map right outside, so we were able to orient ourselves using the big map on the wall and our little map, and off we went. It was...not necessarily what I would consider a short walk. As we walked to the first intersection we came across this church. I don't recall the name of the church, but one the banner outside it said "Empower Dominate" It sounded a little cult like. I was scared (not really, as no one was around or anything, but probably will not be going to services at that church.)

So we were walking for a bit. Had to cross a couple of crazy streets. And we're walking in this fairly residential neighborhood. Meg starts talking about turning around and complaining that it was a far walk...and she was the one who wanted to go in the first place...but we perservered (or as Meg might say I said no and made us walk a little further). And a short while later we found it. Unfortunately we didn't really find anything that worked for any of the presents we needed to get, but I got myself a nice ring for $12.

After looking around for awhile we headed back toward the metro. on the way we noticed a bunch of collored flags with the name on them pointing in the right direction. Craziness.

After taking the metro back to Takoma we walked around downtown Takoma Park for a bid. Looked in a bunch of the vintage shops down there.

It was a fun little exploritory day.
